"Towards a Just and Lasting Peace: an international anti-imperialist conference against imperialist war and plunder" Vancouver, Canada (Unceded Coast Salish Territory) June 16-19, 2006 Organized under the auspices of the International League of Peoples’ Struggle
General Resolution
June 16-19, 2006
We, the delegates and participants of the “Towards a Just and Lasting Peace: An international conference against imperialist war and plunder,” held in Vancouver on unceded Coast Salish territory from June 16 to 19, 2006 under the auspices of the International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS), came together from Canada, the United States, Latin America, Europe and Asia to:
• discuss the current situation of imperialism, war, plunder and crisis
• examine the situation and prospects for building a just and lasting peace for oppressed peoples and nations; and
• plan actions, campaigns and other methods of exposing and opposing the systemic causes of war, plunder and crisis.
Having heard from our distinguished Chairperson of the International Coordinating Committee and our other guest speakers, who are leaders of mass organizations and movements around the world, we have achieved a higher level of unity about the ever-worsening crisis of imperialism; the impacts of that crisis on the toiling and marginalized peoples of the world; and the worldwide upsurge of all forms of people’s resistance that the global crisis generates. We have successfully achieved the conference objectives.
We concluded that:
• A just and lasting peace can be realized only with the people achieving national liberation, democracy and social liberation and defeating the wars of counter-revolution and aggression.
• Imperialism and reaction are culpable for the oppression and exploitation of the people, for state terrorism and wars. The U.S. is the No. 1 imperialist power, the No. 1 propagator of terrorism and the No. 1 source of war.
• The people can obtain a just and lasting peace only by overcoming imperialism and reaction. We must assert the justness of this struggle of the people. We must respect and uphold the right of those peoples to use all forms of struggle in building a genuine, durable and just peace.
We recognize and salute the ILPS, which recently celebrated its 5th anniversary, as “one of the most resolute and militant formations fighting against imperialism and reaction” and vow to strengthen and expand the influence of the League in our respective countries and regions.
We also vow to continue the urgent campaigns to condemn the illegal and unjust occupation by U.S. imperialism and its junior partners of Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine. We resolutely, without reservation, support their struggle for resistance and for national liberation.
In a similar manner, we condemn the ongoing attacks of U.S. imperialism, its junior partners and their puppets on the people’s struggles in the Philippines, Turkey, Nepal, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico, India, Haiti and other countries. We also vow to strengthen the struggle of the working-class and other marginalized sectors, including the indigenous peoples and immigrant, migrant and undocumented workers, in the advanced capitalist countries.
To this end, we discussed and approved various country-specific and case-specific resolutions which we will take back to our respective countries and regions for further action.
We are determined to strengthen international solidarity and support each other’s struggles until our liberation is achieved and our common enemy – imperialism and all reaction – is soundly defeated as that is the only way a just and lasting peace can be achieved. We are confident that ours is a bright future because the people’s struggle will prevail!
Resist imperialist wars of aggression, intervention and occupation!
The people’s call is a just and lasting peace for all!
Onward with the struggle for national liberation, democracy and social liberation!
Long live international solidarity!
Down with U.S. imperialism!
