UNITE AGAINST IMPERIALIST WAR AND PLUNDER! ADVANCE THE PEOPLE’S DEMANDS FOR A JUST AND LASTING PEACE!

As participating organization of the International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS) in Canada, we join those who oppose imperialist war and plunder in Canada and throughout the world to mark, with condemnation and outrage, the fourth year anniversary of the U.S.-led war of occupation on Iraq.

In 2003, under the false pretext of carrying out its so-called war on terror, the U.S. led other imperialist powers in invading Iraq, against the will and sovereignty of the Iraqi people and despite the disapproval of the world’s people.

Now four years later, the U.S. has proven itself to be the real terrorizers -- leaving hundreds of thousands of Iraqis dead in its war path, squandering hundreds of billions of dollars, sacrificing the lives of thousands of US soldiers, and creating widespread destruction and chaos. One after the other, the lies to cover up the real reason for the U.S. invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq, have been thoroughly exposed.

From the fabricated tales of nuclear weapons in Iraq to the claims of spreading ‘democracy’ and ‘liberating’the women of Iraq, the people of Iraq and the whole world have now fully understood the real agenda of US imperialism and its allies: this is the control of the oil resources of Iraq and the unchallenged hegemony of the US imperialism in the Middle East.

It is no wonder that the people of Iraq continue to militantly struggle for an end to the U.S.-led war of occupation and for their national liberation. Likewise, more and more people of the world, including in the U.S., are being stirred to take up all forms of resistance to struggle against expanding imperialist war and plunder. The Philippines, which the United States has declared the second front in its war of terror, is intensifying its resistance against imperialist war and plunder. Not only are the Filipino people out in the streets condemning the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, they are also in the countryside raising the banner of protracted people’s war and expanding the base area of the revolution. This week, through the Permanent People’s Tribunal at the Hague in the Netherlands, the Filipino people haveput on trial the Macapagal Arroyo regime and US imperialism for violations of the rights of the people to self-determination under the auspices of the US-directed “global war on terror” including US violation of Philippine sovereignty and territory through iniquitous security agreements, actual crimes in US military intervention, all-out war policy, “terrorist” listing of revolutionary forces and progressive leaders and sabotage of peace negotiations.

In Canada, the contradiction between those who stand to benefit from Canada’s involvement in the so-called ‘global war on terror’ and the Canadian people is sharpening.
The recent scrapping of two anti-terror measures in the Canadian parliament on March 1, 2007 is evidence of this growing divide. Even as the Canadian government
has decided to extend its military involvement in Afghanistan, the Canadian state can no longer ignore the growing restlessness of the Canadian people who are now becoming disillusioned with the rhetoric of ‘anti-terror’ hysteria and roused by the reality of the worsening situation in Canada like relentless cutbacks to social services, privatization, and increasing attacks threatening people’s livelihood.

Therefore as anti-war and anti-imperialist activists in Canada, we must continue to deepen our understanding and raise awareness about this growing divide. We must continue to reject the Canada’s role in imperialist war and plunder abroad and continue to press forward the demands of the Canadian people for economic human rights and social justice.

We must also continue to support and build genuine solidarity with the people of Iraq and the oppressed and exploited of the world who are waging resistance, of all forms, against U.S. imperialist occupation, war, and plunder.Only by continuing to build our anti-war and anti-imperialist movement in Canada in genuine solidarity with those movements and forces around the world also struggling against unjust imperialist wars and plunder can we hope to forge a just and lasting peace for all.

CANADA OUT OF AFGHANISTAN NOW!U.S. OUT OF IRAQ NOW!
STOP THE RAMPAGE OF THE NO. 1 TERRORIST POWER AND PLUNDERER OF THE WORLD!
ADVANCE THE STRUGGLE FOR NATIONAL AND SOCIAL LIBERATION AGAINST IMPERIALISM AND ALL FORMS OF REACTION!
LONG LIVE INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY!
