Statement of the International League of Peoples’ Struggle – Vancouver, BC on March 20, 2005

BUILD A UNITED MOVEMENT AGAINST IMPERIALIST PLUNDER & WAR!

On the anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, the ILPS strongly condemns US imperialists and their accomplices. In defiance of human rights, principles of law and democratic ideals, the US, United Kingdom, France, Japan, Canada and all the imperialist powers and their partners are headed on a barbaric course of aggression and terror. They are the real criminals! They are whipping up racist and war-mongering hysteria in a desperate attempt at saving their unsustainable and unjust elitist world order.

Far from raising up Iraqi society and helping the people, the imperialists are destroying them. The presence of imperialist forces is a foreign occupation for the benefit of US monopolies, regardless of the mask of democracy they parade. We demand the end to the occupation and withdrawal of troops from Iraq and all foreign lands and waters. We support the Iraqi people's resistance for ownership and control of natural resources, and for national and liberation, for democratic renewal.

March 20 is not only a time to condemn the invasion and occupation of Iraq, it is also a time to protest US imperialists, the no. 1 terrorists. The US is the cop of the world in the service monopoly capitalism. This system is murderous and plundering by its very nature, and war and terrorism its way of life.

Dominated by the US economically, militarily, and culturally, Canada is home to many US based corporations. Canada is intimately involved in the military-industrial complex. The Canadian state is a junior partner in US imperialist terror and plunder supporting US military exercises and war production. It is directly assisting the coup in Haiti and the cruel repression against democratic peoples’ organizations there. It is guilty of occupying Afghanistan. At home the Canadian state is adding to its record of colonialist oppression by recklessly attacking its own people, turning justice on its head and abusing its legal system. It is waging terror through racial profiling, security certificates, arbitrary arrests and detentions, sinister deportations, spying and harassment—like the worst banana republic! We condemn Canada’s imperialist acts.

Furthermore, the ILPS opposes the efforts of pseudo-democrats and peaceniks who collude and collaborate with imperialism, apologize for its crimes and terror. We instead are determined to build broad unity among the people against imperialism for real sovereignty, peace, democracy and social justice.

Down with US imperialism, its accomplices and puppets in the crime of aggression!
Victory to the Iraqi people in their resistance for national, social and democratic liberation! Canada out of Afghanistan and Haiti!
Carry forward the struggle of the proletariat and people for a new and better world!
Long live the working class and peoples’ struggles of the world!
